Description of retail sales
Retail sales published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics is a survey of products sold by retailers based on a sample of retail stores of different types and sizes and is considered an indicator of the pace of the Australian economy. It shows the performance of the retail sector in the short and medium term. Positive economic growth anticipates upward trends for the AUD, while a weak reading is considered negative or bearish.
Description of the trade balance
The trade balance generated by the Australian Bureau of Statistics is the difference in value of its imports and exports of Australian goods. Export data can provide an important picture of Australian growth, while imports provide an indication of domestic demand. The trade balance gives a first indication of the net performance of exports. If stable demand for Australian exports is found, this will translate into positive growth in the trade balance, and this should be positive for AUD.
